WELCOME to this website that celebrates Professor Emerita Linda C. Smith, a luminary in library and information science (LIS). More specifically, it highlights the festschrift and symposium in her honor, and features her contributions in research, teaching and service over a close to 50-year career.

Festschrift - Former students and colleagues Anita S. Coleman and Martha Kyrillidou coedited "Library and Information Science, Interdisciplinary Perspectives: A Festschrift in Honor of Linda C. Smith," which comprises Volume 71, Issue 1, of Library Trends. The authors include Smith’s former doctoral students, current and past colleagues in the iSchool, and other collaborators, addressing the three themes—library systems, intelligent and interdisciplinary services, and information sciences education—that have been central to Smith’s work. Coleman and Kyrillidou presented Smith the festscrift at the 130th anniversary celebration of the School of Information Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), on 25 June 2023. Symposium - All are invited to join former students, colleagues, and friends to celebrate Professor Emerita Linda C. Smith's contributions to the field of LIS at a virtual symposium on Thursday, September 28, at 12:00 p.m. Central Time. The festschrift and symposium are the collaborative work of the festschrift coeditors and Library Trends editorial team. For more than 70 years, Library Trends has explored critical trends in professional librarianship through practical applications, thorough analyses, and literature reviews. The vision for the festschrift was developed by coeditors-in-chief Clara M. Chu, UIUC, and Jaya Raju, University of Cape Town, South Africa.
